Destec GSB Single Bolt Clamp Connectors provide vital operability for advanced well
re-injection equipment.
Specialist engineering company for the oil and gas industry,
Destec Engineering Limited, has enhanced the operational ability of the revolutionary
new MARS™® (Multiple Application Re-injection System) work platform - supplying
subsea single bolt clamp connectors that offer rapid and simple connection to the
well tree head.
Lincolnshire, UK-based Destec has already supplied 8 and 10 inch
examples of its GSB Subsea Clamp Connectors for the first MARS™® operational platform,
which has been delivered to the BP King Field, Gulf of Mexico.
The manufacturer
of the system, DES Operations Ltd, Aberdeen, is also to specify Destec Single Bolt
Clamp Connectors on all new MARS™® platforms, as orders unfold.
The MARS™® universal
work platform has been designed to increase ultimaterecovery, optimise production
and increase net present value on oil field reserves, by enabling multiple processing
possibilities on new and existing wells at any time in field life.
Interfacing directly
with the production tree, the MARS™® platform’s connectors are required to meet
extreme pressure and temperature demands, while being quick and simple to fit. Added
to this, with the platform designed to operate in extreme subsea depths, connectors
must be ROV as well as diver operable.
Having supplied over 1,000 Single Bolt Clamp
Connectors for the offshore oil industry, many for ultra deep water applications,
the Destec design team - working closely with DES - were able to propose several
bespoke single bolt connector solutions that precisely met the requirements of the
MARS™® project.
Commenting on the decision to specify Destec connectors for the
project, DES Operations project manager, Steve Robb, says: “Destec’s extensive track
record in the development of single bolt clamp connectors, and its flexible approach
to subsea connection solutions, provided a close fit with our own demanding requirements
for well head connectivity. So far, the connectors have met all expectations, so
much so that we have asked Destec to quote on other project solutions.”

Destec Engineering designs and manufactures
single bolt clamp connectors in a range of materials. They are used in a wide variety
of applications from large pressure vessel closures to pipe connectors for subsea
hook up. The connectors can be adapted to meet ASME and other pressure vessel requirements
for quick release.
